Includes: "The Big Funk," "Savage in Limbo," "Danny & The Deep Blue Sea," "Welcome to the Moon," "The Red Coat," "Down & Out," "Let Us Go Out Into the Starry Night," "Out West," "A Lonely Impulse of Delight," "Women of Manhattan," "The Dreamer Examines His Pillow," "Italian-American Reconciliation," and "Beggars in the House of Plenty." [1], He has also written for film; his second film, Moonstruck (1987), stars Nicolas Cage and Cher, and won three Academy Awards, including one for his screenplay. A Lonely Impulse of Delight Author (s): John Patrick Shanley In A LONELY IMPULSE OF DELIGHT, a young man falls in love with a mermaid in the lake in New York's Central Park, and decides to introduce her to his best friend with delightfully humorous results. They'll openly discuss all their childhood traumas and dreams and desires. Also includes an introduction by the author. My parents, both night owls, let their children keep late hours. It runs only about twenty minutes, but there is something haunting in this brief two-hander. Now Shanley I like, even if I have trouble finding monologues that work for me. It was, in fact, dystopian sci-fi that gradually got me interested in literary fiction. I love some of the films he's written. By John Patrick Shanley
